Albany Elementary School

The Albany Elementary program grew out of a long-range plan to serve 700 students at the facility. Phase 1 included 11 new classrooms, new SBDM office and conference areas, new administration area, toilets and a new kitchen adjacent to existing cafeteria. Significant design criteria revolved around Phases 2 and 3, and the relationship of circulation, function, and security. An interior "crossroad" was created to reduce the terribly long single corridor to separate short corridors which are not so intimidating to small children. The $1.75 million bids were 10% under estimate for the work. Phase 2 bids came in on estimate at $1.28 million. Phase 2 work included new P.E. area, and four Pre-K classrooms. Phase 3 completed the master plan by adding a new Media Center at a cost of $1 million.
